# Edward Tritton

**Edward William Tritton** (3 August 1844 – 1 December 1901) was an English [first-class cricketer](/source/First-class_cricket) active from 1864 to 1875 who played for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club) and [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club). He was born at [Marylebone](/source/Marylebone) and died at [Paignton](/source/Paignton). He appeared in 39 first-class matches as a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batting_(cricket)) and occasional [wicket-keeper](/source/Wicket-keeper) who rarely [bowled](/source/Bowling_(cricket)). He scored 1,000 [runs](/source/Run_(cricket)) with a highest score of 114, one of two [centuries](/source/Century_(cricket)) in his career, and held 20 [catches](/source/Caught_(cricket)). He took one [wicket](/source/Wicket) with a best [performance](/source/Bowling_analysis) of one for 34.[1][2]

Tritton was educated at [Eton](/source/Eton_College), where he played cricket for the school in 1862,[3] and [Christ Church, Oxford](/source/Christ_Church,_Oxford), where he matriculated in 1863 and graduated B.A. in 1869. He studied law at the [Inner Temple](/source/Inner_Temple) and was [called to the bar](/source/Called_to_the_bar) in 1871.[4]
