==Life==
Edward Henry Perowne was the youngest son of three born to the Revd John Perowne and Eliza née Scott, [C.M.S.](/source/Church_Missionary_Society) missionaries at [Burdwan](/source/Burdwan) in [India](/source/India). He was educated at home and at [Norwich](/source/Norwich) before going on to [Corpus Christi College, Cambridge](/source/Corpus_Christi_College%2C_Cambridge) in 1846. Made a scholar the following year, he graduated B.A. in [Classics](/source/Classics) in 1850.<ref>{{acad|id=PRWN846EH|name=Perowne, Edward}}</ref>

He was ordained as a [deacon](/source/deacon) in 1850 and a [priest](/source/priest) in 1851, becoming the [curate](/source/curate) at Maddermarket in [Norfolk](/source/Norfolk).

Perowne was made a Fellow of his old college [Corpus Christi](/source/Corpus_Christi_College%2C_Cambridge) in 1858 eventually becoming Master in 1879.

From 1879 to 1881 he was [Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge](/source/Vice-Chancellor_of_the_University_of_Cambridge),<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/v-c/vicechancellors.html|title = Vice-Chancellor's Office}}</ref> as well as holding various other positions in the [Church of England](/source/Church_of_England).

He died unmarried on 5 February 1906 in [Cambridge](/source/Cambridge). He is buried in [Grantchester](/source/Grantchester).
