**Dominic Edward Murphy** (b [Balrothery](/source/Balrothery) 1651 - d [Dublin](/source/Dublin) 1728) was an [Irish](/source/Ireland) [Roman Catholic](/source/Roman_Catholic) [bishop](/source/Bishop) in the first third of the 18th century.[1]

Murphy trained in the [Irish College at Salamanca](/source/Irish_College_at_Salamanca) and was [ordained](/source/Ordained) a [priest](/source/Priest) in Madrid, in 1677. He was consecrated [Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin](/source/Bishop_of_Kildare_and_Leighlin) in 1715[2] and [translated](/source/Translation_(ecclesiastical)) to the [Archbishopric of Dublin](/source/Archbishop_of_Dublin_(Roman_Catholic)) in 1724.[3] He died in post on 22 December 1728.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]
