McEntee was born in [Providence](/source/Providence%2C_Rhode_Island), [Rhode Island](/source/Rhode_Island), on October 21, 1906. He was educated at the [College of the Holy Cross](/source/College_of_the_Holy_Cross), where he received a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) in 1928. He received a [Bachelor of Laws](/source/Bachelor_of_Laws) from [Boston University School of Law](/source/Boston_University_School_of_Law) in 1933.<ref name="auto" />

McEntee was in the private practice of law in Providence from 1933 to 1952. He was a Member of the [Rhode Island House of Representatives](/source/Rhode_Island_House_of_Representatives) from 1935 to 1939. He was an [Assistant United States Attorney](/source/Assistant_United_States_Attorney) of the District of Rhode Island from 1940 to 1951. He was the [United States Attorney](/source/United_States_Attorney) for the District of Rhode Island from 1952 to 1953.<ref name="auto">{{FJC Bio|1547|nid=1384651|name=Edward Matthew McEntee<!--(1906–1981)-->}}</ref>

==Federal judicial service==

McEntee was nominated by President [Lyndon B. Johnson](/source/Lyndon_B._Johnson) on August 3, 1965, to a seat on the [United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit](/source/United_States_Court_of_Appeals_for_the_First_Circuit) vacated by Judge [Peter Woodbury](/source/Peter_Woodbury). He was confirmed by the [United States Senate](/source/United_States_Senate) on August 31, 1965, and received his commission on September 1, 1965. He assumed [senior status](/source/senior_status) on December 31, 1976. His service was terminated on February 14, 1981, due to his death.<ref name="auto"/>
