# Edward Frederick Anderson

**Edward Frederick Anderson** (Covina, California, June 17, 1932 – March 29, 2001) was an American botanist who conducted extensive explorations in Mexico.

He was a leading specialist in the [cactus family](/source/Cactaceae). He was Senior Research Botanist at the [Desert Botanical Garden](/source/Desert_Botanical_Garden), Phoenix. He chaired the [International Organization for Succulent Plant Study](/source/International_Organization_for_Succulent_Plant_Study). He was a member of the [Cactus and Succulent Society of America](/source/Cactus_and_Succulent_Society_of_America) and the [Linnean Society of London](/source/Linnean_Society_of_London). He was emeritus professor of biology at [Whitman College](/source/Whitman_College), where he taught for three decades.[1]

He collected *[Jasminocereus thouarsii](/source/Jasminocereus_thouarsii)*.[2]
