**Edward Carfagno** (November 28, 1907 – December 28, 1996) was an [art director](/source/Art_director#In_film) who established himself in the 1950s with his [Oscar](/source/Academy_Awards)-winning work on such films as [Vincente Minnelli](/source/Vincente_Minnelli)'s *[The Bad and the Beautiful](/source/The_Bad_and_the_Beautiful)* (1952), [Joseph Mankiewicz](/source/Joseph_Mankiewicz)'s *[Julius Caesar](/source/Julius_Caesar_(1953_film))* (1953) and [William Wyler](/source/William_Wyler)'s *[Ben-Hur](/source/Ben-Hur_(1959_film))* (1959)[1] . Carfagno went on to work consistently on a variety of films, including five collaborations with [Clint Eastwood](/source/Clint_Eastwood) including *[Tightrope](/source/Tightrope_(film))* (1984) and *[Heartbreak Ridge](/source/Heartbreak_Ridge)* (1987).

Carfagno began working at [MGM](/source/MGM) in 1933, and was also a member of the US's [1940 Olympic](/source/1940_Summer_Olympics) [fencing](/source/Fencing) team.
