**Eduard Leopold Maria Strauss** (March 24, 1910 – April 6, 1969), commonly known as **Eduard Strauss II** to distinguish him from his grandfather, was an [Austrian](/source/Austria) [conductor](/source/Conducting) whose grandfather was [Eduard Strauss I](/source/Eduard_Strauss) and whose uncle was [Johann Strauss III](/source/Johann_Strauss_III).

He enrolled at [University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna](/source/University_of_Music_and_Performing_Arts%2C_Vienna), and learned composition technique from [Franz Schmidt](/source/Franz_Schmidt_(composer)). He debuted as a conductor in 1949, 50 years after the death of [Johann Strauss II](/source/Johann_Strauss_II), and 100 years after the death of [Johann Strauss I](/source/Johann_Strauss_I).

Eduard II visited [Japan](/source/Japan) in 1956. His works drew enormous attention, which resulted in a Johann Strauss boom occurring in Japan.

He organized the [Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester](/source/Wiener_Johann_Strauss_Orchester) in 1966.

His son, [Eduard Strauss](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eduard_Strauss_(judge)&action=edit&redlink=1) (born 1955) is the current head of the [Strauss Family](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Strauss_Family&action=edit&redlink=1).
