== Bowls career ==
She won a bronze medal in the Triples with [Barbara Till](/source/Barbara_Till), [Norma Shaw](/source/Norma_Shaw) and [Babs Barlow](/source/Babs_Barlow) at the [1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship](/source/1992_World_Outdoor_Bowls_Championship). Bessell also won four [national singles titles](/source/List_of_Bowls_England_Women's_National_Championships) representing Somerset.
