It is {{convert|2|mile|km|0}} north west of [Verwood](/source/Verwood) and {{convert|10|mile|km|0}} north of [Bournemouth](/source/Bournemouth), near the source of a small stream which flows into the [River Crane, Dorset](/source/River_Crane%2C_Dorset); both are Sites of Special Scientific Interest.{{citation needed|date=November 2024}} In the [2001 census](/source/United_Kingdom_Census_2001) it had a population of 200.{{citation needed|date=November 2024}}

Edmondsham House was built in 1589 by builders William Arnold and family,{{citation needed|date=November 2024}} and in 1905 was described by [Sir Frederick Treves](/source/Sir_Frederick_Treves%2C_1st_Baronet) as "grey with age" and hence "like a mist in the wood".<ref>Treves, Sir F., ''Highways and Byways in Dorset'', Macmillan, 1905, p90</ref> The house and gardens are open to the public.{{citation needed|date=November 2024}}
