{{Short description|Medieval Slavic woman}}

{{distinguish|Edla (given name)}}

'''Edla''' (10th{{endash}}11th century) was a [Slavic](/source/Slavic_peoples) woman during the [Viking Age](/source/Viking_Age).<ref>{{Cite book |last=Roslund |first=Mats |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=1POvCQAAQBAJ&dq=Olof+Sk%C3%B6tkonung+edla&pg=PA27 |title=Guests in the House: Cultural Transmission between Slavs and Scandinavians 900 to 1300 AD |date=2007-09-30 |publisher=BRILL |isbn=978-90-474-2185-6 |language=en}}</ref>  She was the mother of King [Emund](/source/Emund_the_Old) of Sweden and Queen [Astrid](/source/Astrid_Olofsdotter) of Norway.<ref>{{Cite book |last=Lawler |first=Jennifer |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=pAxeCgAAQBAJ&dq=Olof+Sk%C3%B6tkonung+edla&pg=PA225 |title=Encyclopedia of Women in the Middle Ages |date=2018-01-16 |publisher=McFarland |isbn=978-1-4766-0111-3 |language=en}}</ref>

According to tradition, Edla was the daughter of a [Lechitic](/source/Lechites) [tribal chief](/source/tribal_chief) who ruled the region between the [Oder](/source/Oder) and [Elbe](/source/Elbe) rivers, in what is now [Mecklenburg-Vorpommern](/source/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). She was brought to Sweden as a prisoner of war sometime between 995 and 1000, likely before the arrival of [Estrid of the Obotrites](/source/Estrid_of_the_Obotrites) ({{lang|sv|Estrid av obotriterna}}).<ref name=":0">{{Cite book |last=Wilhelmsson |first=Caroline |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=S1kcEQAAQBAJ&dq=Olof+Sk%C3%B6tkonung+edla&pg=PT41 |title=The Queens and Royal Women of Sweden, c. 970–1330: Their Lives, Power, and Legacy |date=2024-10-11 |publisher=Taylor & Francis |isbn=978-1-040-15520-2 |language=en}}</ref>

King [Olof Skötkonung](/source/Olof_Sk%C3%B6tkonung) took Edla as his concubine.<ref name=":0" /> Later, he married Estrid. Edla became the mother of Emund, Astrid, and likely Holmfrid. [Snorre Sturlasson](/source/Snorre_Sturlasson) notes that her children were sent to foster parents away from the royal court because Queen Estrid was unkind to them. This may suggest that Edla died while her children were still young.<ref name=":0" />
