# Edith Lake

**Edith Lake** is a small [alpine lake](/source/Alpine_lake) in [Custer County](/source/Custer_County,_Idaho), [Idaho](/source/Idaho), [United States](/source/United_States), located high in the [Sawtooth Mountains](/source/Sawtooth_Range_(Idaho)) in the [Sawtooth National Recreation Area](/source/Sawtooth_National_Recreation_Area). The lake is approximately 16.5 miles (26.6 km) south of [Stanley](/source/Stanley,_Idaho). A trail from the [Yellow Belly Lake](/source/Yellow_Belly_Lake) and [Pettit Lake](/source/Pettit_Lake) trailheads leads towards Edith Lake via [Farley Lake](/source/Farley_Lake). These trailheads can be accessed from [State Highway 75](/source/Idaho_State_Highway_75) via [Sawtooth National Forest](/source/Sawtooth_National_Forest) road 208.[1]

With a surface elevation of 8,660 feet (2,640 m) [above sea level](/source/Sea_level#AMSL), Sawtooth Lake often remains frozen into early summer.

Edith Lake is in the [Sawtooth Wilderness](/source/Sawtooth_Wilderness) and wilderness permit can be obtained at trailheads. The hike to Edith Lake from the Yellow Belly Lake trailhead is about 9 miles (14 km).
