Born '''Edilberta Angelillo''' in [Venice](/source/Venice), she is the daughter of singers and stage artists who performed with the name Franco & Regina.<ref name=attr>{{cite book|last=Enrico Lancia, Roberto Poppi|title=Dizionario del cinema italiano – Le Attrici|publisher=Gremese Editore, 2003|isbn=888440214X}}</ref>

Angelillo studied dance, mime and acting, and at 19 years old, in 1979, she made her film debut in [Maurizio Nichetti](/source/Maurizio_Nichetti)'s ''[Ratataplan](/source/Ratataplan)''.<ref name="attr"/> The same year, Angelillo debuted on television as an assistant in [Rai 1](/source/Rai_1) variety show ''[Domenica in](/source/Domenica_in)'', and recorded her first single as a singer.<ref name="attr"/> In 1981, she acted in theatre the play [La vita comincia ogni mattina](/source/La_vita_comincia_ogni_mattina), with [Gino Bramieri](/source/Gino_Bramieri).

In 1984, after having been an assistant of [Pippo Baudo](/source/Pippo_Baudo) at the [Sanremo Music Festival](/source/Sanremo_Music_Festival), she focused her activities on stage.<ref name="attr"/>
