'''Edwin "Ed" Aubron Narain''' (born September 8, 1976) is an American [Democratic](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) politician who served as a member of the [Florida House of Representatives](/source/Florida_House_of_Representatives), representing the 61st District, which includes [West](/source/West_Tampa) and East Tampa, [Progress Village](/source/Progress_Village%2C_Florida), [Sulphur Springs](/source/Sulphur_Springs_(Tampa)), and the university parts of [Tampa](/source/Tampa%2C_Florida) in Central and Northern [Hillsborough County](/source/Hillsborough_County%2C_Florida), from 2014 to 2016.

==History==
Narain was born in [New York City](/source/New_York_City) and later moved to [Florida](/source/Florida), where he grew up in [Fort Lauderdale](/source/Fort_Lauderdale%2C_Florida). In 1994, he moved to Tampa to attend the [University of South Florida](/source/University_of_South_Florida), where he served as the president of the student body from 1997 to 1998. Narain later received his [bachelor's degree](/source/bachelor's_degree) in psychology from [Saint Leo University](/source/Saint_Leo_University), where he also received his [Master of Business Administration](/source/Master_of_Business_Administration) in 2009. Narain works for AT&T as an assistant vice president and serves as a member of the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, the Tampa Bay Chamber, and the Tampa Economic Development Council. In 2013, he graduated from the [Stetson University College of Law](/source/Stetson_University_College_of_Law) with his [Juris Doctor](/source/Juris_Doctor) and received the Dean's Award.<ref name="Narain">{{cite web|url=https://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/local/narain-leads-district-61-race-in-early-returns/2194767/|title=Ed Narain wins District 61 state House race|date=August 26, 2014|access-date=November 29, 2014|work=[Tampa Bay Times](/source/Tampa_Bay_Times)|first=Caitlin|last=Johnston}}</ref>

==Florida House of Representatives==
In 2014, incumbent [State Representative](/source/Florida_House_of_Representatives) [Betty Reed](/source/Betty_Reed) was unable to seek re-election due to term limits, so Narain ran to succeed her. He faced Sharon Carter, Tatiana Denson, and [Sean Shaw](/source/Sean_Shaw) in the [Democratic](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)) primary, which largely became a contest between Narain and the well-funded Shaw. Shaw earned the endorsement of former Governor [Charlie Crist](/source/Charlie_Crist), former Congressman Jim Davis, former [Chief Financial Officer of Florida](/source/Chief_Financial_Officer_of_Florida) [Alex Sink](/source/Alex_Sink), State Sen. Arthenia Joyner, and a number of state legislators,<ref>{{cite web |last=Rosica |first=James L. |date=July 13, 2014 |title=4 rivals vie for District 61 seat |url=http://tbo.com/news/politics/4-rivals-vie-for-district-61-seat-20140713/ |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141204202133/http://tbo.com/news/politics/4-rivals-vie-for-district-61-seat-20140713/ |archive-date=December 4, 2014 |accessdate=November 29, 2014 |work=[Tampa Tribune](/source/Tampa_Tribune)}}</ref> while Narain earned the endorsement of Reed, former Senate and House Minority Leader; Commissioner Lesley "Les" Miller; former Senator James "Jim" T. Hargrett; former County Commissioner Thomas Scott; retired school board member Doris Ross-Reddick; and former City Councilwoman Gwendolyn Miller.<ref name="Narain" /> Narain was endorsed by the Florida Sentinel Bulletin and the ''[Tampa Bay Times](/source/Tampa_Bay_Times)'', which asserted that his "firm grasp of local concerns, sustained volunteerism, and deep community roots reflect a commitment to the district that would translate well in Tallahassee,"<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/editorials/times-recommends-florida-legislature/2191072/|title=Times recommends: Florida Legislature|date=August 1, 2014|access-date=November 29, 2014|work=[Tampa Bay Times](/source/Tampa_Bay_Times)}}</ref> while Shaw was endorsed by the ''[Tampa Tribune](/source/Tampa_Tribune)''.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://tbo.com/list/news-opinion-editorials/editorial-endorsements-shaw-grant-in-house-races-20140725/|title=Editorial endorsements: Shaw, Grant in House races|date=July 25, 2014|accessdate=November 29, 2014|work=[Tampa Tribune](/source/Tampa_Tribune)|archive-date=December 4, 2014|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141204202538/http://tbo.com/list/news-opinion-editorials/editorial-endorsements-shaw-grant-in-house-races-20140725/|url-status=dead}}</ref> Ultimately, Narain defeated Shaw, receiving 42% of the vote to Shaw's 34%.
