Chapman became a professional artist in the 1990s.<ref name="lancbio"/> His artistic influences include [Chuck Close](/source/Chuck_Close), [Robert Rauschenberg](/source/Robert_Rauschenberg), and [Jamie Reid](/source/Jamie_Reid).<ref name="lancbio"/> His work has sold in more than 25 countries,<ref name="offbio"/>{{failed verification|date=September 2016}} and has been exhibited in galleries in the UK and around the world.

He has created several 'firsts' in mosaic, including [Jimi Hendrix](/source/Jimi_Hendrix) from [Fender guitar](/source/Fender_guitar) picks, tennis star  [Andy Murray](/source/Andy_Murray) on carpet made from household items like tomato sauce and lipstick, [Albert Einstein](/source/Albert_Einstein) in metal, a chewing gum mosaic, a bullets mosaic and several others.
