**Edward K. Adams**, known as **Ed Adams**, is an American [sailor](/source/Sailing_(sport)) in the [Star](/source/Star_(keelboat)), [Snipe](/source/Snipe_(dinghy)), and [Laser](/source/Laser_(dinghy)) classes. He was named [US Sailor of the Year](/source/US_Sailor_of_the_Year_Awards) in 1987 and 1991.

In the [Laser class](/source/Laser_(dinghy)), 1975 US national champion, and 1976 bronze medal at the [Laser World Championship](/source/Laser_World_Championship).

At college, he won in 1977 the [ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship](/source/ICSA_Coed_Dinghy_National_Championship) with the [University of Rhode Island](/source/University_of_Rhode_Island),[2] and was named All-American.[3]

Adams won the [North American Championship](/source/Snipe_North_American_Championship) five times (1981, 1983, 1985, 1987 and 1993) and the [United States National Championship](/source/United_States_Snipe_National_Championship) twice (1986 and 1991) in the [Snipe](/source/Snipe_(dinghy)) class.

He became world champion of the [Star](/source/Star_(keelboat)) class at the [1987 Star World Championships](/source/1987_Star_World_Championships) in Chicago,[4] and won the bronze medal at the [1986 Worlds](/source/1986_Star_World_Championships). He also won the [Star European Championships](/source/Star_European_Championships) in 1988 and the [Bacardi Cup](/source/Bacardi_Cup) in 1988 and 1991.

After leaving the Star, he was appointed coach of the US Olympic Sailing team of 2000 and 2004, while also participating at the [2000 Louis Vuitton Cup](/source/2000_Louis_Vuitton_Cup) as navigator onboard of [Young America](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Young_America_(USA-53)&action=edit&redlink=1) with [Ed Baird](/source/Ed_Baird).[5] Two years later, in 2002, he won the Laser Master Worlds.[6]

He joined the Delta Lloyd's coaching team for the Boston in-port race of the [2008–09 Volvo Ocean Race](/source/2008%E2%80%9309_Volvo_Ocean_Race). Previously, he sailed the final two legs of [Illbruck Challenge](/source/Illbruck_Challenge)'s victorious campaign in the [2001-02 event](/source/2001%E2%80%9302_Volvo_Ocean_Race).

He was inducted into the [National Sailing Hall of Fame](/source/National_Sailing_Hall_of_Fame) in 2022.[7]
