The '''EMP2''' ('''Efficient Modular Platform''') is a [modular](/source/Modularity) [car platform](/source/car_platform) which is jointly developed and used by French car manufacturer [PSA Group](/source/PSA_Group) (merged into [Stellantis](/source/Stellantis) since 2021) for compact and mid-size [car](/source/car)s with [front wheel drive](/source/front_wheel_drive) or [four wheel drive](/source/four_wheel_drive) and transverse engine. It replaces the [PF2](/source/PSA_PF2_platform) and [PF3](/source/PSA_PF3_platform) platforms in one combined modular platform, and cost PSA €630 million to develop.

==Specification==
The EMP2 platform is highly modular, with a choice of short and long wheelbase, low or high riding height, and a choice of independent [multi-link](/source/multi-link_suspension) or [twisted-beam](/source/twisted-beam_rear_suspension) rear suspension. Comparing to the predecessor [PF2](/source/PSA_PF2_platform), the platform reduces the weight by 70 kg using [very high strength steel](/source/very_high_strength_steel), aluminum and magnesium alloys, and composite materials.<ref>[http://www.psa-peugeot-citroen.com/en/inside-our-industrial-environment/innovation-and-rd/emp2-the-new-efficient-modular-platform-by-psa-peugeot-citroen-article EMP2, the new Efficient Modular Platform by PSA Peugeot Citroën]</ref>

This platform was first used on the second-generation [Citroën C4 Picasso](/source/Citro%C3%ABn_C4_Picasso) and then on the second-generation [Peugeot 308](/source/Peugeot_308) and second-generation [Peugeot 408](/source/Peugeot_408_(saloon)).

The later iteration of the EMP2 has a degree of flexibility which allows four different track widths, five different wheelbase lengths, two different cockpit architectures, two rear axle architectures, several rear vehicle modules for various versions (short, long, five or seven-seater, single seats or rear bench, combustion engine or [hybrid](/source/Hybrid_electric_vehicle)), and up to six different rear vehicle assemblies, which can be produced on the same assembly line.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2018-06-13 |title=Modular Multi-Energy Platforms: For Efficient Variety of Models |url=https://www.media.stellantis.com/em-en/opel/press/modular-multi-energy-platforms-for-efficient-variety-of-models |access-date=2022-09-14 |website=Stellantis Media |language=en}}</ref>

==Production==
PSA started production of the EMP2 platform at the Vigo plant (in Spain), under the 2013 [Citroën C4 Picasso](/source/Citro%C3%ABn_C4_Picasso) which was previewed by the [Technospace](/source/Citro%C3%ABn_Technospace) concept car,<ref>{{cite web |title=Citroen Technospace concept hints at new C4 Picasso |website=[The Daily Telegraph](/source/The_Daily_Telegraph) |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230309143154/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-manufacturers/citroen/9855820/Citroen-Technospace-concept-hints-at-new-C4-Picasso.html |archive-date=2023-03-09 |url-status=live |url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-manufacturers/citroen/9855820/Citroen-Technospace-concept-hints-at-new-C4-Picasso.html}}</ref> and the 2013 [Peugeot 308](/source/Peugeot_308),<ref>[http://www.quattroruote.it/notizie/auto-novita/peugeot-308-il-primo-leone-su-piattaforma-emp2 Peugeot 308: il primo Leone su piattaforma EMP2] {{webarchive|url=https://archive.today/20130413090217/http://www.quattroruote.it/notizie/auto-novita/peugeot-308-il-primo-leone-su-piattaforma-emp2 |date=2013-04-13 }}</ref> which is produced in the Sochaux plant in France.
