# EAR 29 class

The **EAR 29 class** was a class of oil-burning gauge [steam locomotives](/source/Steam_locomotive) based upon the [Nigerian Railways River class](/source/Nigerian_Railways_River_class). Thirty-one were built for the [East African Railways](/source/East_African_Railways) (EAR), in two batches, of 20 and 11, respectively, by [North British Locomotive Company](/source/North_British_Locomotive_Company) in [Glasgow](/source/Glasgow), Scotland.[2] They were built to be [gauge convertible](/source/Track_gauge_conversion) to gauge.[3]
