Dynod was a son of [Pabo Post Prydain](/source/Pabo_Post_Prydain) and is thought to have succeeded to his kingdom. He was the father of Saint [Deiniol](/source/Deiniol), founder of [Bangor](/source/Bangor%2C_Gwynedd) by [Dwywai ferch Lleenog](/source/Dwywe).<ref name=cdw/>

He is also mentioned in a poem on the death of [Urien](/source/Urien) of Rheged. [Llywarch Hen](/source/Llywarch_Hen) says: "Let savage Unhwch guide me; It was said in Drws Llech, ‘Dunod ap Pabo does not retreat.’"<ref name=cdw/> After the assassination of Urien, Dynod is said to have invaded his kingdom of [Rheged](/source/Rheged), doing battle against Urien's sons [Owain](/source/Owain_mab_Urien) and Pascent. He is said to have died at the hands of the [Bernicia](/source/Bernicia)n [Angles](/source/Angles_(tribe)) around AD 595.

Dynod is often confused with the abbot  [Saint Dunod](/source/Saint_Dunod) of [Bangor Iscoed](/source/Bangor-on-Dee) mentioned by [Bede](/source/Bede).
