# Dwayne Provo

**Dwayne Provo** (born October 7, 1970[1]) is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) athlete, school administrator, and politician.

## Early life

Provo was born in [North Preston, Nova Scotia](/source/North_Preston,_Nova_Scotia) (one of Canada's largest [Black](/source/Black_Nova_Scotians) communities) and attended university at [Saint Mary's University](/source/Saint_Mary's_University_(Halifax)) where he played [Canadian football](/source/Canadian_football) and was [drafted](/source/Canadian_College_Draft) in [1995](/source/1995_CFL_Draft) by the [Saskatchewan Roughriders](/source/Saskatchewan_Roughriders).

## Professional football career

He went on to play professional football in the [Canadian Football League](/source/Canadian_Football_League) for 8 years (as well as a brief stint in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League)). Since retiring from football he has taken further university studies and worked as a school administrator.

## Political career

In the [2006 Nova Scotia election](/source/2006_Nova_Scotia_general_election), he ran as the [Progressive Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Association_of_Nova_Scotia) candidate for the riding of [Preston](/source/Preston_(electoral_district)), but finished second to Liberal [Keith Colwell](/source/Keith_Colwell). In [2009](/source/2009_Nova_Scotia_general_election), he ran again but placed third behind Colwell and New Democrat Janet Sutcliffe. He is a cousin to boxer [Kirk Johnson](/source/Kirk_Johnson) and hockey player [Evander Kane](/source/Evander_Kane).
