# Dun, Angus

**Dun** is a rural parish in [Angus, Scotland](/source/Angus,_Scotland).[1][2] It contains the [House of Dun](/source/House_of_Dun), home of the Erskine family and is a stop on the [Caledonian Railway](/source/Caledonian_Railway). It is located on the river South Esk, west of [Montrose](/source/Montrose,_Angus) and east of [Brechin](/source/Brechin).

In 1785-7, a bridge was built there across the South Esk.

The writer [Violet Jacob](/source/Violet_Jacob) was born at the House of Dun. [William Chalmers Burns](/source/William_Chalmers_Burns), a famous Scottish evangelist was born at Dun in 1815.
