# Du Cane Range

The **Du Cane Range** is a [mountain range](/source/Mountain_range) in the [Central Highlands](/source/Central_Highlands_(Tasmania)) region of [Tasmania](/source/Tasmania), [Australia](/source/Australia).

An unnamed point on the main massif of the Du Cane Range has an elevation of 1,520 metres (4,990 ft) [above sea level](/source/Australian_Height_Datum)[citation needed] and is the eleventh [highest mountain peak](/source/List_of_highest_mountains_of_Tasmania) in Tasmania. Major peaks in the range include [The Acropolis](/source/The_Acropolis_(mountain)), [Mount Geryon](/source/Mount_Geryon), [The Parthenon](/source/The_Parthenon_(mountain)), [Mount Eros](/source/Mount_Eros), [Mount Hyperion](/source/Mount_Hyperion), [Mount Massif](/source/Mount_Massif), [Mount Achilles](/source/Mount_Achilles_(Tasmania)), and Falling Mountain. Tasmania's highest peak at an elevation of 1,617 metres (5,305 ft) is nearby, but is not part of the Du Cane Range.[1]

The range is a major feature of the [Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park](/source/Cradle_Mountain-Lake_St_Clair_National_Park), and is a popular venue with bushwalkers and [mountain climbers](/source/Mountaineering).

The Du Cane Range was named in honour of Sir [Charles Du Cane](/source/Charles_Du_Cane), , the [Governor of Tasmania](/source/Governor_of_Tasmania) from 1874 to 1878.[2]
