This article is about the band. For their self-titled album, see [Dreamcar (album)](/source/Dreamcar_(album)).

**Dreamcar** (stylized as **DREAMCAR**) is an American [new wave](/source/New_wave_music) [supergroup](/source/Supergroup_(music)) from [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), California.[3] The band consists of [Davey Havok](/source/Davey_Havok), best known as the lead singer of [AFI](/source/AFI_(band)), along with [Tony Kanal](/source/Tony_Kanal) (bass), [Tom Dumont](/source/Tom_Dumont) (guitar) and [Adrian Young](/source/Adrian_Young) (drums), all the members of [No Doubt](/source/No_Doubt) except for [Gwen Stefani](/source/Gwen_Stefani).

## Background and musical style

In February 2016, representatives for the then-unnamed group confirmed to [*Billboard*](/source/Billboard_(magazine)) that [No Doubt](/source/No_Doubt)'s instrumental members – [Tony Kanal](/source/Tony_Kanal), [Tom Dumont](/source/Tom_Dumont) and [Adrian Young](/source/Adrian_Young) – were joining forces with [AFI](/source/AFI_(band)) frontman [Davey Havok](/source/Davey_Havok) in a new band. They had already finished recording their debut album and were looking for a label to release it on.[4] At the time, [Gwen Stefani](/source/Gwen_Stefani) was a judge on [*The Voice*](/source/The_Voice_(American_TV_series)) and promoting a new solo album, *[This Is What the Truth Feels Like](/source/This_Is_What_the_Truth_Feels_Like)*. Havok reiterated that he was not "replacing" Stefani or singing for No Doubt.[5]

In November 2016, the project revealed its name, Dreamcar.[6]

Dreamcar's first single "Kill for Candy" premiered on March 2, 2017. A video for the song was released on April 3, 2017. Their self-titled debut album was released on May 12, 2017.[7]

On May 6, 2023, Dreamcar reunited for a surprise set at the 11th Annual Musack Rock & Roll Carnival in Los Angeles.[8] On April 2, 2024, the band announced the release of the *Dream EP*, which released on April 5 and featured a cover of [David Bowie](/source/David_Bowie)'s "[Moonage Daydream](/source/Moonage_Daydream)".[1] Later that year, they played the [Cruel World Festival](/source/Cruel_World_Festival) in [Pasadena, California](/source/Pasadena%2C_California).[9]
