'''Doug Carpenter''' (born July 1, 1942, in [Cornwall, Ontario](/source/Cornwall%2C_Ontario)) is a former head coach in the [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League), the [Quebec Major Junior Hockey League](/source/Quebec_Major_Junior_Hockey_League), the [International Hockey League](/source/International_Hockey_League_(1945%E2%80%932001)) and the [American Hockey League](/source/American_Hockey_League), and is a former hockey player in the [Eastern Hockey League](/source/Eastern_Hockey_League) and the [International Hockey League](/source/International_Hockey_League_(1945%E2%80%932001)).

As a player from 1964–1974, he played for the [Greensboro Generals](/source/Greensboro_Generals_(1959%E2%80%931977)) and [Roanoke Valley Rebels](/source/Roanoke_Valley_Rebels) in the EHL and for the [Flint Generals](/source/Flint_Generals) in the IHL. He became a head coach for the [Flint Generals](/source/Flint_Generals) in 1974, where he coached until 1978. He then became head coach of the [Cornwall Royals](/source/Cornwall_Royals) of the QMJHL for the 1979-80 season. Following stints with the [New Brunswick Hawks](/source/New_Brunswick_Hawks) and [St. Catharines Saints](/source/St._Catharines_Saints) of the AHL, he landed his first NHL head coach position with the [New Jersey Devils](/source/New_Jersey_Devils). Later he coached the [Toronto Maple Leafs](/source/Toronto_Maple_Leafs). Also, in the AHL he coached the [Halifax Citadels](/source/Halifax_Citadels) twice, and the [New Haven Nighthawks](/source/New_Haven_Nighthawks). He ended his coaching career in 1993.
