***Doto onusta*** is a [species](/source/Species) of [sea slug](/source/Sea_slug), a [nudibranch](/source/Nudibranch), a [marine](/source/Marine_(ocean)) [gastropod](/source/Gastropod) [mollusc](/source/Mollusc) in the [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) [Dotidae](/source/Dotidae).

It is considered a dubious synonym of *[Doto floridicola](/source/Doto_floridicola)* Simroth, 1888 by the [World Register of Marine Species](/source/World_Register_of_Marine_Species)[2]

## Distribution

This species was first described from [Brittany](/source/Brittany), [France](/source/France). It has rarely been reported since the original description. Henning Lemche identified it with the common species which feeds on the hydroid *[Dynamena pumila](/source/Dynamena_pumila)*, predominantly in the intertidal region.[3]

## Description

This nudibranch is translucent white with dark red spots on the [ceratal](/source/Cerata) tubercles. The back and sides are spattered with red pigment which extends up the inner faces of the rhinophore sheaths.[4] It is illustrated in colour in a more detailed publication by Hesse in 1873.[5]

## Ecology

*Doto onusta* feeds on the [hydroid](/source/Hydroid_(zoology)) *Dynamena pumila*, family [Sertulariidae](/source/Sertulariidae).[3]
