'''Doosan Arena''', previously known as '''Stadion města Plzně''' (Plzeň City Stadium), is a [football](/source/association_football) stadium in [Plzeň](/source/Plze%C5%88), [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic). It is located in Štrunc Park, near the confluence of the [Mže](/source/M%C5%BEe) and [Radbuza](/source/Radbuza) rivers. The stadium is the home ground of [FC Viktoria Plzeň](/source/FC_Viktoria_Plze%C5%88). The stadium holds 11,700 people. It is also known as '''Stadion ve Štruncových sadech''' (Stadium in Štrunc Park), named after Emil Štrunc, a former regional chieftain of the [Sokol Movement](/source/Sokol_Movement) (some people incorrectly think it is named after a famous local footballer [Stanislav Štrunc](/source/Stanislav_%C5%A0trunc)).{{citation needed|date=August 2013}}

==History==
The stadium was opened in 1955 for the regional [Spartakiad](/source/Spartakiad_(Czechoslovakia)). After various construction enlargements, its capacity was 35,000 people, 7,600 of which were seated. In 2002–03 it underwent reconstruction to comply with the needs of [football association](/source/%C4%8CMFS) and the capacity lowered significantly to 7,425 people.<ref>[http://www.efotbal.cz/index.php?page=clanek&clanek=73339 eFotbal.cz: Plzeň chce nový stadion až za 400 milionů] - 20 May 2010</ref>

=== 2011 reconstruction ===
In April 2011, work costing approximately 360 million [Czech koruna](/source/Czech_koruna) got under way to modernise the stadium in line with UEFA criteria.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://plzen.idnes.cz/rekonstrukce-stadionu-zacala-do-struncovych-sadu-vjely-bagry-p6w-/Plzen-zpravy.aspx?c=A110401_145402_plzen-zpravy_sou |title=Rekonstrukce stadionu začala, do Štruncových sadů vjely bagry|language=cs |publisher=idnes.cz |date=1 April 2011 |access-date=16 August 2011}}</ref> While the reconstruction was in progress, the capacity of the stadium was reduced to 3,500 spectators.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://zpravy.idnes.cz/plzen-zacala-na-novem-stadionu-setrit-skrtla-vybaveni-za-24-milionu-1dr-/domaci.aspx?c=A110707_114621_plzen-zpravy_alt |title=Plzeň začala na novém stadionu šetřit, škrtla vybavení za 24 milionů|language=cs |publisher=idnes.cz |date=7 July 2011 |access-date=16 August 2011}}</ref> At the end of August 2011, part of the 2011 reconstruction had finished, leaving the stadium with a new capacity of around 8,500.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://fotbal.idnes.cz/fanouskovsky-kotel-plzenskych-fotbalistu-roste-a-stehuje-se-puc-/fotbal.aspx?c=A110827_093510_plzen-sport_ald |title=Fanouškovský kotel plzeňských fotbalistů roste. In 2011, Plzeň played in the [2011–12 UEFA Champions League group stage](/source/2011%E2%80%9312_UEFA_Champions_League_group_stage). However, home matches were played at [Synot Tip Arena](/source/Synot_Tip_Arena) in [Prague](/source/Prague) due to the reconstruction. In January 2012, the stadium was approved for use in Plzeň's [2011–12 UEFA Europa League](/source/2011%E2%80%9312_UEFA_Europa_League) match with [Schalke 04](/source/Schalke_04).<ref>{{cite news |url=http://sport.ihned.cz/fotbal/c1-54440270-uefa-rozhodla-zapas-plzen-schalke-se-bude-hrat-na-stadionu-v-plzni |title=UEFA rozhodla: zápas Plzeň - Schalke se bude hrát na stadionu v Plzni |language=cs |publisher=[Hospodářské noviny](/source/Hospod%C3%A1%C5%99sk%C3%A9_noviny) |date=16 January 2012 |access-date=20 January 2012 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120120012834/http://sport.ihned.cz/fotbal/c1-54440270-uefa-rozhodla-zapas-plzen-schalke-se-bude-hrat-na-stadionu-v-plzni |archive-date=20 January 2012 |url-status=dead }}</ref>
