**Donovan Cook** (born January 30, 1968) is an American filmmaker, animator, cartoonist, director, and producer, best known for creating, directing and producing the animated series Hanna-Barbera's *[2 Stupid Dogs](/source/2_Stupid_Dogs)*[1] and directing the [Disney](/source/The_Walt_Disney_Company) [animated features](/source/Animated_feature) *[Return to Never Land](/source/Return_to_Never_Land)* and *[Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers](/source/Mickey%2C_Donald%2C_Goofy%3A_The_Three_Musketeers)*, as well as co-executive producing the animated series *[Gabby's Dollhouse](/source/Gabby's_Dollhouse)*.

## Early life and career

Cook was born in [Berkeley, California](/source/Berkeley%2C_California), on January 30, 1968, and moved to [San Diego](/source/San_Diego%2C_California) at the age of 14. He graduated from the [California Institute of the Arts](/source/California_Institute_of_the_Arts) in 1990, after which he began working for Disney on several Disney [animated films](/source/Animated_films), such as *[The Little Mermaid](/source/The_Little_Mermaid_(1989_film))* and the [Mickey Mouse](/source/Mickey_Mouse) [adaptation](/source/The_Prince_and_the_Pauper_(1990_film)) of *[The Prince and the Pauper](/source/The_Prince_and_the_Pauper)*.

In 1993, Cook created the [Emmy](/source/Emmy)-nominated television series *[2 Stupid Dogs](/source/2_Stupid_Dogs)* for [Hanna-Barbera](/source/Hanna-Barbera); he got the idea for the series from two stray dogs roaming in his apartment and was trying to sell it when Hanna-Barbera bought it. *[Secret Squirrel](/source/Secret_Squirrel)* was one of his favorite Hanna-Barbera cartoons that he watched in the 1970s, which influenced him to revive the series as *Super Secret Secret Squirrel*, the middle segment in *2 Stupid Dogs*.

Cook returned to Disney in 1997, where he developed and produced the series *[Nightmare Ned](/source/Nightmare_Ned_(TV_series))*. In 1998, he returned to feature animation when he co-directed *[Return to Never Land](/source/Return_to_Never_Land)* for Disney. In 2001, he directed the first feature-length film starring *Mickey Mouse* series characters [Mickey Mouse](/source/Mickey_Mouse) and [Donald Duck](/source/Donald_Duck); [Goofy](/source/Goofy) had previously appeared in *[A Goofy Movie](/source/A_Goofy_Movie)* and its sequel, *[An Extremely Goofy Movie](/source/An_Extremely_Goofy_Movie)*. The film, *[Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers](/source/Mickey%2C_Donald%2C_Goofy%3A_The_Three_Musketeers)*, was released on DVD in 2004. He also served as a director for *[Mickey Mouse Clubhouse](/source/Mickey_Mouse_Clubhouse)* and *[The Adventures of Kid Danger](/source/The_Adventures_of_Kid_Danger)* and an assistant director for *[The Ren & Stimpy Show](/source/The_Ren_%26_Stimpy_Show)*, as well as doing sheet timing for episodes of the *[Ben 10](/source/Ben_10_(2016_TV_series))* reboot.

Cook also directed the micro-budget [indie film](/source/Independent_film) *Rideshare: The Movie*, the first film to be shot entirely on the [iPhone 4](/source/IPhone_4). It was released on April 12, 2011, at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival and was subsequently shown at the Honolulu Film Awards, receiving positive reviews.

Currently, Cook is co-executive producer of the preschool animated series *[Gabby's Dollhouse](/source/Gabby's_Dollhouse)*, produced by [DreamWorks Animation](/source/DreamWorks_Animation) for [Netflix](/source/Netflix).
