# Donald Milne

**Donald George Milne** (July 16, 1934 – January 24, 2016) was an American lawyer and politician.

Born in [Barre, Vermont](/source/Barre_(city),_Vermont), Milne graduated from [Spaulding High School](/source/Spaulding_High_School_(Barre,_Vermont)) in 1952, [Boston University](/source/Boston_University) (1957), and [New York Law School](/source/New_York_Law_School) (1959). He served on the [Washington, Vermont](/source/Washington,_Vermont) selectboard and on the Washington school board. Milne also served in the [Vermont House of Representatives](/source/Vermont_House_of_Representatives) in 1967. He then served as clerk of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1993 until his retirement in 2015. His wife, [Marion Milne](/source/Marion_Milne), also served in the Vermont House.[1][2]

Milne died of cancer in Washington, Vermont.[3][4]

His son, [Scott Milne](/source/Scott_Milne), now runs Milne Travel and was the unsuccessful [2014 Republican gubernatorial candidate](/source/Vermont_gubernatorial_election,_2014) in Vermont.

His cousin, [James F. Milne](/source/James_F._Milne), served as [Secretary of State of Vermont](/source/Secretary_of_State_of_Vermont) from 1995 to 1999.[5]
