**Donald Graham Burt** is an American [production designer](/source/Production_designer). He has worked on multiple films including [*The Joy Luck Club*](/source/The_Joy_Luck_Club_(film)), *[Dangerous Minds](/source/Dangerous_Minds)*, and [*Donnie Brasco*](/source/Donnie_Brasco_(film)), as well as with [David Fincher](/source/David_Fincher) on *[Zodiac](/source/Zodiac_(film))* in [2007](/source/2007_in_film).[1] In 2008, he designed the sets for [*The Curious Case of Benjamin Button*](/source/The_Curious_Case_of_Benjamin_Button_(film)) which won an [Academy Award](/source/Academy_Awards) for [Best Art Direction](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Production_Design) in 2009,[2] an [Art Directors Guild](/source/ADG_Excellence_in_Production_Design_Awards) Award for Best Achievement in Art Direction,[3] and a [BAFTA Film Award](/source/British_Academy_of_Film_and_Television_Arts) for Best Production Design,[4] along with receiving a nomination for a [Satellite Award](/source/Satellite_Award) for Best Art Direction & Production Design.[5] In 2020, Burt won an Academy Award for [David Fincher](/source/David_Fincher)'s [black-and-white](/source/Black-and-white) biographical drama film *[Mank](/source/Mank)*.[6]

Burt is a 1976 graduate of Independence (Kansas) High School and studied art at the University of Arizona.[7] His father was a pastor and his mother was a homemaker. Before employment in the film industry, he worked as a night janitor in a small [scene shop](/source/Scene_shop) in [Phoenix](/source/Phoenix%2C_Arizona).[8]
