**Donal Vaughan** (born 1988 or 1989)[2] is a [Gaelic footballer](/source/Gaelic_football) who played inter county football with [Mayo](/source/Mayo_county_football_team). He plays club football for [Castlebar Mitchels](/source/Castlebar_Mitchels_GAA) since 2017 after leaving [Ballinrobe](/source/Ballinrobe_GAA).[3][4][5]

## Playing career

Vaughan started at centre back in two All-Ireland SFC finals: the [2012 decider](/source/2012_All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship_Final), which Mayo lost by 0–13 to 2–11 against [Donegal](/source/Donegal_county_football_team) and the [2013 final](/source/2013_All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship_Final), which Mayo lost by 1–14 to 2–12 against Dublin.[6][7][8]

Vaughan was sent off in the [2017 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final](/source/2017_All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship_Final) after a reckless charge at [John Small](/source/John_Small_(Gaelic_footballer)) of [Dublin](/source/Dublin_GAA) after a free was awarded and Small was shown his second yellow of the match. [Dublin](/source/Dublin_county_football_team) would go on to win afterwards. Some Mayo fans blamed Vaughan's sending off as the main reason why Mayo lost the final.[9]

In December 2017, he moved from his home club [Ballinrobe](/source/Ballinrobe_GAA) to rivals [Castlebar Mitchels](/source/Castlebar_Mitchels_GAA), a town where he lived and worked, following Ballinrobe's relegation to the Intermediate ranks.[10][11]

Vaughan announced his retirement from the inter-county game in January 2021.[12][2]

## Personal life

Vaughan owns his own shoe [shop chain](/source/Chain_store) in his home county, which is named Vaughan Shoes.[1]
