The name [ragout](/source/ragout) comes from the French, a smooth, tomato-based sauce prepared with vinegar and vegetables, to which flour (farine) is added to thicken the sauce. Domoda is one of the emblematic recipes of Senegalese gastronomy.<ref>{{Cite book |last=Thiam |first=Pierre |title=Senegal: Modern Senegalese Recipes from the Source to the Bowl |year=2015}}</ref> Alongside dishes such as [thieboudienne](/source/thieboudienne) and [yassa](/source/Yassa_(food)), it is a favorite in Senegal. It is consumed mainly in Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea.

Domoda can be made with meat or fish.<ref>{{Cite web |title=domoda poisson |date=27 January 2015 |url=https://lacuisinededaba.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/domoda-poisson/}}</ref> It is usually served with white rice. Lemon juice is added to give it its distinctive tangy flavor.
