# Doc Leitner

**George Aloysius Leitner** (September 14, 1865 – May 18, 1937) was an American professional [baseball](/source/Baseball) player who played [pitcher](/source/Pitcher) in the Major Leagues for the 1887 [Indianapolis Hoosiers](/source/Indianapolis_Hoosiers_(National_League)) of the [National League](/source/National_League_(baseball)). He played college baseball at [Fordham University](/source/Fordham_University) and [New York University](/source/New_York_University). The year before leaving for the major league, in 1886 he was pitcher at the Nyack Baseball,[1] in [Rockland County](/source/Rockland_County), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)).

In March 1888, he graduated in [medicine](/source/Medicine) from Bellevue Hospital Medical College, leaving his baseball career.[2]
