# Dobitschen

**Dobitschen** (ˈdoːbɪtʃn̩) is a [municipality](/source/Municipality) in the [Altenburger Land](/source/Altenburger_Land) district, in the far eastern part of [Thuringia](/source/Thuringia), [Germany](/source/Germany). It borders on the municipalities [Schmölln](/source/Schm%C3%B6lln), [Göllnitz](/source/G%C3%B6llnitz), [Mehna](/source/Mehna) and [Starkenberg](/source/Starkenberg). It is subdivided into the *[Ortsteile](/source/Ortsteil)* Dobitschen, Meucha, Pontewitz and Rolika.

## History

Within the [German Empire](/source/German_Empire) (1871–1918), Dobitschen was part of the Duchy of [Saxe-Altenburg](/source/Saxe-Altenburg). From 1952 to 1990, it was part of the [Bezirk Leipzig](/source/Bezirk_Leipzig) of [East Germany](/source/East_Germany).
