==History==
Dobel became a possession of the [Duchy of Württemberg](/source/Duchy_of_W%C3%BCrttemberg) in 1527 after purchasing rights to the town over the last two hundred years, and it was assigned to the district of Neuenbürg. That district was dissolved in 1938 and Dobel was reassigned to district of [Calw](/source/Calw). The town began a period of [urban growth](/source/urban_growth) after [World War II](/source/World_War_II), particularly along its eastern edge. In the 1970s, there was some expansion further to the northeast, and the village of Lehensägmühle was ceded to Dobel from [Bad Wildbad](/source/Bad_Wildbad) in 1971. ==Geography==
The municipality (''[Gemeinde](/source/Municipalities_of_Germany)'') of Dobel is located situated in [the district](/source/Calw_(district)) of [Calw](/source/Calw), in the [German state](/source/States_of_Germany) of [Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg). Dobel lies at the northwest corner of the district, bordering the districts of [Rastatt](/source/Rastatt_(district)) and the [Enz](/source/Enzkreis). The municipal area is physically located in the [Grinde](/source/Grinde_(landform)) area of the [Black Forest](/source/Black_Forest), on a plateau between the valleys of the [Enz](/source/Enz) and [Alb](/source/Alb_(Upper_Rhine)) rivers. Elevation above sea level in the municipal area ranges from a high of {{convert|882|m|sp=us}} [Normalnull](/source/Normalnull) (NN) at the top of the Rosskopf to a low of {{convert|405|m|sp=us}} NN.<ref name=LEO-BW/>

Dobel's [coat of arms](/source/coat_of_arms) shows [the sun](/source/Sun_(heraldry)) rising behind a [green](/source/Vert_(heraldry)), [three-pointed hill](/source/Mount_(heraldry)) upon a [field](/source/Field_(heraldry)) of [blue](/source/Azure_(heraldry)). This pattern was created in 1939 and refers to the landscape of Dobel.
