Valent enjoyed a highly decorated amateur career before making his professional debut, although he continued to compete in amateur contests alongside professional ones between 2007 and 2012. He was the 2006 [IFMA](/source/International_Federation_of_Muaythai_Associations) world silver medallist, as well as the 2009 and 2010 world gold medallist.
