The '''Dix Range''' is a [range of mountains](/source/mountain_range) in the [High Peaks](/source/Adirondack_High_Peaks) region of the [Adirondacks](/source/Adirondacks), southeast of [Mount Marcy](/source/Mount_Marcy) and the Ausable valley, in northeastern [New York State](/source/New_York_State). The Dixes are named for [John Adams Dix](/source/John_Adams_Dix), then Secretary of State under New York Governor [William Marcy](/source/William_Marcy), later Senator, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and New York Governor.<ref>Goodwin, Tony, ed., ''Adirondack Trails, High Peaks Region'', Lake George, New York: Adirondack Mountain Club, 2004, p. 217. {{ISBN|1-931951-05-5}}</ref> The only exception to this is the mountain formerly named East Dix, which in 2014 was renamed [Grace Peak](/source/Grace_Peak) in honor of [Grace Leach Hudowalski](/source/Grace_Hudowalski) (1906–2004), who in 1937 became the ninth person and first woman to climb all 46 of the [Adirondack High Peaks](/source/Adirondack_High_Peaks).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.syracuse.com/outdoors/index.ssf/2014/06/adirondack_mountain_renamed_after_first_woman_to_scale_all_46_high_peaks.html|title=Adirondack mountain renamed after first woman to scale all 46 High Peaks|website=syracuse.com|date=June 12, 2014 }}</ref><ref>{{cite web|title=Tribute to Grace Hudowalski 46er #9 |publisher=Adirondack Forum |date=March 14, 2004 |archive-date=July 18, 2012 |url=http://www.adkforum.com/archive/index.php?t-519.html |archive-url=https://archive.today/20120718102040/http://www.adkforum.com/archive/index.php?t-519.html |access-date=July 18, 2012 |url-status=dead |df=mdy }}</ref><ref>{{cite web |title=Grace Peak Update 11-23-08 |date=November 23, 2008 |publisher=Views From The Top |url=http://www.viewsfromthetop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26413 |access-date=May 16, 2011}}</ref>
