'''''Dispepsi''''' is the eighth album by the American experimental [plunderphonics](/source/plunderphonics) band [Negativland](/source/Negativland). It was released on July 29, 1997, by [Seeland Records](/source/Seeland_Records), Negativland's record label. It is structured as a statement against the major soft drink companies and contains many samples of advertisements from the industry. Particularly, the [collage](/source/sound_collage) album focuses on [Pepsi](/source/Pepsi) adverts.<ref name="MTV" />

==History==
The album was an attack on the highly competitive soft drink companies [Coca-Cola](/source/Coca-Cola) and [Pepsi](/source/Pepsi). The title is a variation of ''[dyspepsia](/source/dyspepsia)'', which is synonymous with indigestion. The word "Dispepsi" deliberately does not appear anywhere on the album artwork, but a telephone number was set up to provide the proper title. It is scrambled into [anagram](/source/anagram)s including "Pedissip" and "Ideppiss", as the band originally believed they would be sued for [trademark infringement](/source/trademark_infringement) if the actual title was shown. Once Pepsi lawyers indicated that they had no intention of suing Negativland, they began referring to it by its actual title.<ref>[http://www.negativland.com/nmol/dispepsi.html Dispepsi<!-- Bot generated title -->] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20061117055043/http://www.negativland.com/nmol/dispepsi.html |date=November 17, 2006 }}</ref> However, on the front artwork (based on the [flag of South Korea](/source/flag_of_South_Korea)), the actual album title could be un-scrambled by reading the red letters in order of their decreasing size, starting with the largest, D, and ending with the smallest, I.

Notes on samples include:
:"All of the cola commercials that were appropriated, transformed, and reused in this recording attempted to assault us in our homes without permission. Other sources reused include: talk radio, [MOMMIE DEAREST](/source/Mommie_Dearest_(film)), [tabloid TV](/source/tabloid_television), [Pepsi and Shirlie](/source/Pepsi_%26_Shirlie), documentary TV, [Bryan Ferry](/source/Bryan_Ferry), the news, [Ice-T](/source/Ice-T), [public service announcements](/source/public_service_announcements), [Asha Bhosle](/source/Asha_Bhosle), [MC Lyte](/source/MC_Lyte), [The Clio Awards](/source/Clio_Awards), traditional Burmese music, the [O. J. Simpson murder case](/source/O._J._Simpson_murder_case), motivational marketing tapes by advertising executives."<ref>[http://www.negativland.com/negdisco_detail.html#dispepsi Unbelievably Anal Negativland Discography<!-- Bot generated title -->] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060828072535/http://www.negativland.com/negdisco_detail.html#dispepsi |date=August 28, 2006 }}</ref>
