The **Diocese of Koper** ([Latin](/source/Latin_language): *Dioecesis Iustinopolitana*; [Slovene](/source/Slovene_language): *Škofija Koper*; [Italian](/source/Italian_language): *Diocesi di Capodistria*) is a [Latin Church](/source/Latin_Church) [diocese](/source/Diocese) of the [Catholic Church](/source/Catholic_Church) in southwestern [Slovenia](/source/Slovenia). It is part of the [ecclesiastical province](/source/Ecclesiastical_province) of [Ljubljana](/source/Roman_Catholic_Archdiocese_of_Ljubljana). Its [cathedral](/source/Cathedral) is dedicated to the [Assumption of Mary](/source/Assumption_of_Mary) and is located in the [Adriatic](/source/Adriatic_Sea) port town of [Koper](/source/Koper). A [co-cathedral](/source/Co-cathedral), the [Co-Cathedral of Christ the Saviour](/source/Co-Cathedral_of_Christ_the_Saviour%2C_Nova_Gorica), located in [Nova Gorica](/source/Nova_Gorica), gained its status in 2004. The Latin name of the diocese, *Dioecesis Iustinopolitana*, is because Koper was in the past named *Justinopolis* in honour of the Byzantine emperor [Justinian II](/source/Justinian_II).
