**Dinajpur-3** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). The current [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament) in this constituency is [Syed Jahangir Alam](/source/Syed_Jahangir_Alam) of [Bangladesh Nationalist Party](/source/Bangladesh_Nationalist_Party).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Dinajpur Sadar Upazila](/source/Dinajpur_Sadar_Upazila).[1][2]

## History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Khurshid Jahan died in June 2006. To fill the vacant seat, the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) planned a by-election for 7 September. The [High Court](/source/High_Court_Division), however, blocked the by-election on the grounds that it would be wasteful, as the parliament's tenure was due to end in October with the formation of a caretaker government in preparation for the next general election.[11]
