**Diffractaic acid** is a [β-orcinol](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%CE%92-orcinol&action=edit&redlink=1) [depside](/source/Depside) with the [molecular formula](/source/Molecular_formula) C20H22O7, which is produced by [lichens](/source/Lichens).[3][1][4] Diffractaic acid has [cytotoxic](/source/Cytotoxic), [cytogenetic](/source/Cytogenetic), [oxidative](/source/Oxidative), [analgesic](/source/Analgesic) and [antiviral](/source/Antiviral) effects.[4]

The [foliose lichen](/source/Foliose_lichen) species *[Punctelia diffractaica](/source/Punctelia_diffractaica)* is named for the presence of this compound.[5]
