# Dick Woodard

**Richard Ernest Woodard** (July 26, 1926 – August 24, 2019) was an American [football](/source/American_football) [center](/source/Center_(American_football)) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) for the [New York Giants](/source/New_York_Giants) and [Washington Redskins](/source/Washington_Commanders). Woodard also played in the [All-America Football Conference](/source/All-America_Football_Conference) (AAFC) for the [Los Angeles Dons](/source/Los_Angeles_Dons).[1]

Woodward was born in [Britt](/source/Britt,_Iowa), [Iowa](/source/Iowa). He played [college football](/source/College_football) at the [University of Iowa](/source/University_of_Iowa) and was [drafted](/source/NFL_Draft) in the 21st round of the [1948 NFL draft](/source/1948_NFL_draft) by the Giants.[2] In 1948, Woodard was an honorable mention selection for the All-Big Nine team.[3] He died on August 24, 2019, at the age of 93.[4]
