# Dick Mehen

**Richard Peter Mehen** (May 20, 1922 – December 14, 1986) was an American professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player. He played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) for the [Tennessee Volunteers](/source/Tennessee_Volunteers_basketball).

## Career

Mehen played college basketball at the [University of Tennessee](/source/University_of_Tennessee), but his career was interrupted by service in the [United States Air Force](/source/United_States_Air_Force) during [World War II](/source/World_War_II) alongside his brother [Bernie](/source/Bernie_Mehen), who was also a college and pro basketball player.[1]

Mehen began his career with the [Toledo Jeeps](/source/Toledo_Jeeps) of the NBL, and was transferred with teammate [Harry Boykoff](/source/Harry_Boykoff) to the [Waterloo Hawks](/source/Waterloo_Hawks), where he played one season in the NBL and another in the NBA. After the Hawks left the league, he had stints with the [Baltimore Bullets](/source/Baltimore_Bullets_(original)), [Boston Celtics](/source/Boston_Celtics), [Fort Wayne Pistons](/source/Fort_Wayne_Pistons) and [Milwaukee Hawks](/source/Milwaukee_Hawks).
