He served as the head football coach at [Fort Scott Community College](/source/Fort_Scott_Community_College) in [Fort Scott, Kansas](/source/Fort_Scott%2C_Kansas) from 1969 to 1970 and [Coffeyville Community College](/source/Coffeyville_Community_College) from 1975 to 1988, compiling a career [junior college football](/source/junior_college_football) coaching record of 146–25–2. He led his [1970 Fort Scott Greyhounds football team](/source/1970_Fort_Scott_Greyhounds_football_team) and [1983 Coffeyville Red Ravens football team](/source/1983_Coffeyville_Red_Ravens_football_team) to [NJCAA National Football Championship](/source/NJCAA_National_Football_Championship)s.
Foster graduated from [William Jewell College](/source/William_Jewell_College) in 1954, and later received a master's degree from the [University of Missouri](/source/University_of_Missouri). He began his coaching career at [Grain Valley High School](/source/Grain_Valley_High_School) in [Grain Valley, Missouri](/source/Grain_Valley%2C_Missouri), where he was an assistant football coach for two seasons.
