==Biography==
Dell, who won a gold medal at the [1965 Summer Universiade](/source/1965_Summer_Universiade) in the men's doubles with [Allen Fox](/source/Allen_Fox), attended the [University of Michigan](/source/University_of_Michigan) from 1965 to 1969. A member of the [varsity](/source/Michigan_Wolverines) tennis team, Dell was the [Big Ten](/source/Big_Ten_Conference) Singles Champion in 1969. He created history in 1967 when he took part in the longest ever doubles match. On the [Grand Prix tennis circuit](/source/Grand_Prix_tennis_circuit) he won two titles, both in the doubles with [Sherwood Stewart](/source/Sherwood_Stewart). They won their first title together in Tokyo in 1972 then a second in [Cincinnati](/source/Cincinnati_Masters) in 1974. At the [1975 Wimbledon Championships](/source/1975_Wimbledon_Championships), Dell and Stewart made it to the third round of the doubles, where they took former champions [Bob Hewitt](/source/Bob_Hewitt) and [Frew McMillan](/source/Frew_McMillan) to five sets.<ref name="Silverman"/>

Dell retired from tennis in 1977 and took up a coaching job in [Maui](/source/Maui).<ref name="Silverman"/> He returned to the University of Virginia in the 1980s and completed a Doctor of Law.<ref name="Silverman"/>
