**Benedictus Antonius Maria** "**Dick**" **Coster** (born 19 June 1946 in [Leiden](/source/Leiden)) is a [sailor](/source/Sailing_(sport)) from the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands). Since the Netherlands did [boycott](/source/1980_Summer_Olympics_boycott) the [Moscow](/source/Moscow) Olympic Games Coster represented his National Olympic Committee at the [1980 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1980_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Soling) in [Tallinn](/source/Tallinn), [USSR](/source/USSR) under the Dutch [NOC](/source/NOC*NSF) flag. With [Geert Bakker](/source/Geert_Bakker) as helmsman and fellow crew member [Steven Bakker](/source/Steven_Bakker), Coster took the 5th place in the [Soling](/source/Soling). During the [1976 Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1976_Summer_Olympics) Coster was substitute for the Dutch Soling team.

Dick Coster also represented The Netherlands during the [2008 Vintage Yachting Games](/source/2008_Vintage_Yachting_Games) in [Medemblik](/source/Medemblik) as crew in the [Soling](/source/Soling) with helmsman [Steven Bakker](/source/Steven_Bakker) and fellow crewmembers [Sven Coster](/source/Sven_Coster) and [Joost Houweling](/source/Joost_Houweling). The team took silver.

## Sailing career

Coster sailed [Solo](/source/Solo_(dinghy)) before he picked up Olympic sailing. During the Olympic campaigns (2002–2012) of his sons ([Sven Coster](/source/Sven_Coster) and [Kalle Coster](/source/Kalle_Coster)) Coster worked as their coach.

## Professional life

Until his retirement Coster worked in the assurance business.

## Controversy

Several countries did [boycott](/source/1980_Summer_Olympics_boycott) the [1980 Summer Olympics](/source/Sailing_at_the_1980_Summer_Olympics), others like [France](/source/France) did not go since they found the competition devaluated. As result only half of the expected fleet was present during the Olympic regattas.
