The subfamily '''Dialioideae''' is one of the subdivisions of the plant [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) [Fabaceae](/source/Fabaceae) ([legume](/source/legume)s). This subfamily includes many [tropical trees](/source/tropical_trees) and shrubs. The subfamily consists of 17 genera, which are widespread throughout the [tropics](/source/tropics). It has the following clade-based definition:
<blockquote>The most inclusive [crown clade](/source/crown_clade) containing ''[Poeppigia procera](/source/Poeppigia_procera)'' <small>C.Presl</small>and ''[Dialium guianense](/source/Dialium_guianense)'' <small>(Aubl.) H. Kirkbr. & Wiersema</small><ref name="6subfamilies"/></blockquote> Members of the family also share the following morphological characteristics: the presence of cymose [inflorescence](/source/inflorescence)s, the absence of vestured pits in the [xylem](/source/xylem), and a high degree of organ loss.<ref name="Herendeen">{{cite book | vauthors = Herendeen PS, Bruneau A, Lewis GP | chapter = Phylogenetic relationships in Caesalpinioid legumes: A preliminary analysis based on morphological and molecular data | year = 2003 | veditors = Klitgaard BB, Bruneau A | title = Advances in Legume Systematics, Part 10: Higher Level Systematics | pages = 37–62 | publisher = Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew | isbn = 9781842460542}}</ref><ref>{{cite journal | vauthors = Zimmerman E, Prenner G, Bruneau A | year = 2013 | title = Floral ontogeny in Dialiinae (Caesalpinioideae: Cassieae), a study in organ loss and instability | journal = South African Journal of Botany | volume = 89 | pages = 188–209 | doi = 10.1016/j.sajb.2013.06.020| doi-access = free }}</ref>
