**Dhankari** ([Nepali](/source/Nepali_language): ढँकारी) is a [Gaupalika](/source/Gaupalika) ([Nepali](/source/Nepali_language): गाउपालिका, romanized: *gaupalika*) in [Achham District](/source/Achham_District) in the [Sudurpashchim Province](/source/Sudurpashchim_Province) of far-western [Nepal](/source/Nepal).[1] Dhankari has a population of 21562.The land area is 227.88 km2.[2]

## Demographics

At the time of the [2011 Nepal census](/source/2011_Nepal_census), Dhankari Rural Municipality had a population of 21,570. Of these, 95.9% spoke [Nepali](/source/Nepali_language), 3.5% [Achhami](/source/Nepali_language#Dialects), 0.4% [Magar](/source/Magar_language), 0.1% [Maithili](/source/Maithili_language) and 0.1% other languages as their first language.[3]

In terms of ethnicity/caste, 54.5% were [Chhetri](/source/Chhetri), 14.7% other [Dalit](/source/Dalit), 13.9% [Kami](/source/Kami_(caste)), 11.2% [Hill Brahmin](/source/Bahun), 2.2% [Thakuri](/source/Thakuri), 1.9% [Damai](/source/Damai)/Dholi, 0.6% [Badi](/source/Badi_people), 0.4% [Magar](/source/Magars), 0.2% Sanyasi/Dasnami, 0.2% [Sarki](/source/Sarki_(ethnic_group)) and 0.1% others.[4]

In terms of religion, 99.8% were [Hindu](/source/Hinduism_in_Nepal), 0.1% [Christian](/source/Christianity_in_Nepal) and 0.1% others.[5]

In terms of literacy, 46.8% could read and write, 6.4% could only read and 46.7% could neither read nor write.[6]
