**Dhaka-2** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). The constituency is currently represented by [Bangladesh Nationalist Party](/source/Bangladesh_Nationalist_Party) member [Amanullah Aman](/source/Amanullah_Aman).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Dhaka South City Corporation](/source/Dhaka_South_City_Corporation) wards 55 through 57; one [union parishad](/source/Union_parishad) of [Kamrangirchar](/source/Kamrangirchar_Thana) and [Hazaribagh](/source/Hazaribagh_Thana) thanas: Sultanganj; seven union parishads of [Keraniganj Upazila](/source/Keraniganj_Upazila): Basta, Hazratpur, Kalatia, Kalindi, Ruhitpur, Sakta, and Taranagar; and three union parishads of [Savar Upazila](/source/Savar_Upazila): Amin Bazar, Bhakurta, and Tetuljhora.[1][2]

## History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[3] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[4]

Qamrul Islam was re-elected unopposed in the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election) after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[9]
