# Devontae Shuler

**Devontae Shuler** (born February 9, 1998) is an American professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player for the [San Diego Clippers](/source/San_Diego_Clippers_(NBA_G_League)) of the [NBA G League](/source/NBA_G_League). He played [college basketball](/source/College_basketball) for the [Ole Miss Rebels](/source/Ole_Miss_Rebels_men's_basketball).

## High school career

As a sophomore, Shuler averaged 25.5 points per game for [Irmo High School](/source/Irmo_High_School) in [Columbia, South Carolina](/source/Columbia,_South_Carolina) and led his team to the Class 4A lower state title game.[1] He played alongside [Zion Williamson](/source/Zion_Williamson) and [Ja Morant](/source/Ja_Morant) with the South Carolina Hornets [Amateur Athletic Union](/source/Amateur_Athletic_Union) program.[2][3] After the season, he transferred to [Oak Hill Academy](/source/Oak_Hill_Academy_(Mouth_of_Wilson,_Virginia)) in [Mouth of Wilson, Virginia](/source/Mouth_of_Wilson,_Virginia).[1] Shuler helped his team win the High School National title as a junior.[2] In his senior season, Shuler averaged 15.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.7 steals per game.[4] A four-star [recruit](/source/College_recruiting), he committed to playing college basketball for [Ole Miss](/source/Ole_Miss_Rebels_men's_basketball) over offers from [South Carolina](/source/South_Carolina_Gamecocks_men's_basketball), [Oklahoma State](/source/Oklahoma_State_Cowboys_basketball) and [Miami (Florida)](/source/Miami_Hurricanes_men's_basketball).[5]

## College career

As a freshman at Ole Miss, Shuler averaged six points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, primarily playing off the ball alongside [Breein Tyree](/source/Breein_Tyree). He decided to return to the team despite a coaching change after the season, after meeting with new coach [Kermit Davis](/source/Kermit_Davis).[6] Shuler moved into a starting role and averaged 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and three assists per game as a sophomore. He recorded 56 steals, the most ever by an Ole Miss sophomore and the seventh-most in program history.[7] Shuler declared for the [2019 NBA draft](/source/2019_NBA_draft) before returning to college.[8] On February 1, 2020, he scored a junior season-high 28 points along with five three-pointers in a 73–63 loss to [LSU](/source/LSU_Tigers_basketball).[9] As a junior, Shuler averaged 11.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.[10] He averaged 15.3 points and 3.3 assists per game as a senior, earning First Team All-[SEC](/source/Southeastern_Conference) honors.[11]

## Professional career

### Capital City Go-Go (2021–2022)

After going undrafted in the [2021 NBA draft](/source/2021_NBA_draft), Shuler joined the [Dallas Mavericks](/source/Dallas_Mavericks) for [2021 NBA Summer League](/source/2021_NBA_Summer_League). On October 15, 2021, he signed with the [Washington Wizards](/source/Washington_Wizards).[12] Shuler was waived on October 16.[13] In October 2021, he joined the [Capital City Go-Go](/source/Capital_City_Go-Go) as an affiliate player.[14] On December 29, 2022, Shuler was waived.[15]

### Fort Wayne Mad Ants (2023)

On January 15, 2023, Shuler was acquired by the [Fort Wayne Mad Ants](/source/Fort_Wayne_Mad_Ants).[16] He was waived on February 8.[17]

### Cleveland Charge (2023–2024)

On February 13, 2023, Shuler was acquired by the [Cleveland Charge](/source/Cleveland_Charge).[18]

On October 21, 2023, Shuler signed with the [Cleveland Cavaliers](/source/Cleveland_Cavaliers), but was waived the same day,[19] and one week later, he re-signed with the Charge.[20]

### Filou Oostende (2024–2025)

On October 1, 2024, Shuler signed with [Filou Oostende](/source/BC_Oostende) of the [BNXT League](/source/BNXT_League).[21]

## Personal life

Shuler is the son of Donald and Linda Shuler, and his father works in the state government.[6] Shuler was diagnosed with [vitiligo](/source/Vitiligo), a skin condition causing a [loss of pigment](/source/Depigmentation), in his early high school years.[22] He has five brothers and two sisters, including Dontrell, who plays college basketball for [Middle Tennessee State](/source/Middle_Tennessee_Blue_Raiders_men's_basketball), and [Dominic](/source/Dominic_Shuler), who plays professional basketball. Another brother, Deandre, died in 2000 at the age of three.[6]
