View from the Kara Dag

The **Devil's Gate** ([Crimean Tatar](/source/Crimean_Tatar_language): *şeytan qapu*) or **Golden Gate** (*Altın Qapı*) is an [arch-like cliff](/source/Natural_arch) near the [Kara Dag Mountain](/source/Kara_Dag_Mountain_(Crimea)) in the [Crimea](/source/Crimea). The cliff was supposed to have marked a gateway to [hell](/source/Hell).[1] It is popular with tourists and [carnelian](/source/Carnelian) hunters. [Alexander Pushkin](/source/Alexander_Pushkin) is thought to have been the first to depict the cliff, on the margins of his verse novel *[Eugene Onegin](/source/Eugene_Onegin)*.[2]
