The film was a remake of Tamil film  ''[Puguntha Veedu](/source/Puguntha_Veedu)'' (1972) which was earlier remade in Telugu as ''[Puttinillu Mettinillu](/source/Puttinillu_Mettinillu)'' (1973), in Malayalam as ''[Sindhu](/source/Sindhu_(film))'' (1975) and later in Hindi as ''[Teri Kasam](/source/Teri_Kasam)'' (1982).
